Dr. Sanaz Kashan, Dr. Marin Gillis, Dr. Marcos Milanez, Dr. Michael Mintzer, Dr. Chris Degnon, and Dr. Elizabeth Grey have produced program development reports that have been presented at the International Conference on Clinical Ethics and Consultation (Singapore 2017), the  International Cambridge Consortium for Bioethics Education (Paris 2017, 2016), the AAMC-LSL Conference EPA Poster Session (2016). GOLD RESEARCH PROJECTS

Dr. Sanaz Kashan and Dr. Marin Gillis have received a Living Will Program grant (2015-2018), research is to commence 2018 and IRB approval will be sought, with Dr. Sanaz Kashan as PI. Sara Kim (MS 2017) has received a grant to create learning modules for medical students on humanistic sports medicine for athletes participating  in the Special Olympics.

NEUROLOGY & ETHICS SIMULATIONS

Two required coma simulations for the neurology clerkship have been developed and assessed for clinical science and skills and ethics and professionalism outcomes.  Dr. Diana Barrett, Dr. Marin Gillis, Dr. Rebeca Martinez, Professor Liana Loughlin, and Dr. Cheryl Strasser have presented at the International Conference on Clinical Ethics and Consultation in 2015 (where they received the best poster prize), the VII International Congress on Brain Death and Disorders of Consciousness  (Havana, Cuba 2016), the International Cambridge Consortium of Bioethics (2016) and the AAMC-Southern Group on Educational Affairs conference (2016). Scholarship of Teaching and Learning. The study has been IRB approved with Dr. Diana Barrett as PI.

INTERNAL MEDICINE ETHICS QUESTIONNAIRE

INTERNAL MEDICINE ETHICS QUESTIONNAIRE

Dr. Amalia Landa Galindez, Dr, Sanaz Kashan, Dr. Marin Gillis, Dr. Marcos Milanez, Dr. Marta Cuellar, Dr. Melissa Armas, and Dr. Michael Mintzer have collected initial data for a project analyzing required student ethics questionnaires for ethical issues surrounding treatment of geriatric patients for the Classes of 2013 and 2014. Coding for the classes of 2015 and 2016 will soon be complete. This study is IRB approved with Dr. Amalia Landa Galindez as PI an initial findings have been reported at the American Geriatrics Society (2015) and the American Association for Bioethics and Humanities (2015). Scholarship of Teaching and Learning.

LATINA PHYSICIAN - LEADERSHIP IDENTITY FORMATION EXPLORATION (LP-LIFE)

LATINA PHYSICIAN - LEADERSHIP IDENTITY FORMATION EXPLORATION (LP-LIFE)

LP-LIFE is a national study of Latina physicians who hold leadership positions in U.S.-based healthcare systems, including academic medicine. It is presently in the initial interview stage. A preliminary report is due May 2017. This study has been IRB approved with PI Dr. Jaime Franco and Co-PI Dr. Marin Gillis. Dr. Franco has presented preliminary at the national AAMC-GWIMS/GDI Joint Meeting (2017). Scholarship of  Discovery.
